Let’s talk – Pretend play talk show

My son came to me saying that he wanted to do talk show with me .Inspired from watching news channel. He named it as home channel ,the show name was let’s talk and guest of the day was My amma.He was the anchor of the show.
I couldn’t believe my eyes ,the way he raised questions based on my answers. Each question was asked based on my previous answer. He totally changed to role of news anchor.
He questioned about my school,my lkg teacher name, where I was born ,the hospital name, what’s special about Davangere?
Which city do you like, about my friends, family .What would I do if I see a shark?Experience about my latest trip and so many other questions.

The one question which I loved to the core was ,when he asked me to tell  something which I don’t like to do.No one has asked me till date.
Assuming camera man recording the show and asking me not to look at camera .Making a call to my brother and asking him to share about me.Each and every minute things ,I loved it.
It was lots of fun, humour and memorable evening. In short ,first and best interview for mom by child. We both totally involved in the play so much.

Create your own story with stickers

Stories are our all time favourite. We narrate stories using toys, puppets, hands, stickers and whatever comes to our mind.We play it as story telling game too.

Today we did story telling using stickers and paper.I regularly keep a stock of stickers, paper cuts from magazines,Google images printout at home since my child loves this method of story narration.

It aids in developing fine motor skills, narration, expressions , imagination, builds confidence level in the child and encourages positive thinking.

How do we create stories using stickers

First method:

I just hand over the stickers and sheet to the child. He sticks the sticker on sheet and creates own story based on the stickers. It will be very interesting as story develops based on sticker. In this method,it develops the imagination and narration skills of the child.

Second method

I can feel the mood of my child .It has worked very well when the child is upset.Last year, there was an incident which made him to feel bad as others laughed at him including his dad. That was the situation ,I used stickers based on the incident and the child could open up freely what was in the mind and express it.

It boost the confidence level and develops positive attitude.

This method was adopted today as he was upset. His mood was cheered up at the end of story.

I don’t prefer to pester him by asking what happened and other questions as he would be already upset.I don’t either prefer to give him gyaan.

This story telling game will be played only when the child is in good mood to listen and at appropriate time.Certainly not immediately after the incident.

Other instances which you can use:

We can use this sticker method when it is decided to put child in playgroup, shifting to new place as there will be totally new environment, set up routine for the school,to create awareness about good touch & bad touch and many more.

This can be done in either ways

A.Parent narrating own story to child

B.Child narrating story to parents

C.Group story narration activity among kids.

Question Me game

I had received WhatsApp message of Wh questions. Thus I got this idea of creating Question Me game.I have attached the WhatsApp forward too as it may be useful to someone.

How we played this game

I have typed whatever questions came to my mind based on ‘Wh ‘ questions and self laminated it.I have numbered it in order of 1 to 45 as we used dice to play this game.It is numbered in such a way so that it is not in same order like usual board game and the child need to put concentration to find the sequence of number.

This game can be played with two or more players.

The first player will roll the dice.If he gets number 6,he will move with his pebble to number 6 ,whatever question is written in box 6 will be asked to second player.

The second player has to answer the question asked by first player. Then second player will get his turn and he will ask the question to first player.

The game continues till one of the player reaches the end point.

The player will miss the chance if he does not answer in full sentence.

I wanted to keep as simple as possible, you can modify the question according to your child. In this game,we had follow up questions apart from board questions.I extended the help of reading questions on behalf of my child wherever needed.

This game aids in development of language skills in the child, questioning skills, taking turns, counting, enhances concentration.

Our Teeth game

This game was prepared in less than 5 minutes.I got this idea of playing this game when we were talking about human teeth.

I just draw teeth from 1 to 32 in sheet of paper with few simple rules.Chalk piece are used as teeth. This game was played in two methods.

How we played

First method.

We have used 32 pieces of chalk pieces as teeth and a dice for this game

0 is the start and end point of game

My child wanted to mention it as baby, little boy, highschool boy, college, office, daddy, grandpa as stages.

For certain teeth ,I have mentioned rules as move forward 2 teeth, backward 2 teeth,go to teeth number 17 and soon

The child had to roll the dice ,count it and keep the teeth according to numbers.

For example: If the dice stops at 5,the child had to keep 5 teeth and keep on adding according to the number. The game will end after reaching the finish point 0.

Second method.

In this method ,I asked the child to keep all 32 pieces of teeth in each place.

The child had to roll the dice.If he gets number 2,he need to remove 2 teeth and put it in cup.The game ends when all 32 teeth are removed.

This game is purely my imagination and but my child loved playing it.It was different experience.

Thirdly the child need to perform the act that is specified for the letter B.Similarly it is done for all letters.
