A to Z vehicles

0001.jpg

Today we were discussing about what we learnt in the month of January and what he would like to learn in February.Suddenly my son said let’s play the game of A to Z vehicles.

It sounded interesting , I immediately sat with the paper and noted down whatever my son said.It was amazing to recall the vehicle names from each letter, for few letters we didnot know vehicle names and we used help of our Google baba at the end.

We learnt new vehicles names which we were not aware. One of the method to improve vocabulary and finally ended this game with A to Z vehicle song.

Whatever I wrote in paper were turned to softcopy and I took print out of it and filed it for our other plans.

Sharing with you all so that it would be useful for many little ones.

Emergent reader book about Vehicles

0001.jpg

My son showed interest in self reading when he turned 4 years. He started to read everywhere ,be it a buiding / shop name, parking area or newspaper. We have lots of book at home but donot have any appropriate books to do self reading. So I thought to create books based on our theme of the month.

Most important is that he is involved while creating this book.I have noted down what he wanted to include in the book.He had big list but I have narrowed down as this is first book on self reading. My son loved reading of its own.I would suggest this book for kids aged 4 years and above.

Please note:This was created purely for our personal purpose but thought to share as it may be useful for little ones .This is created based on my child’s reading level.

You can download the book for free in the below mentioned link for your little ones.

Cool Mom Ideas 2017

Idea No :5 Ways to introduce scissors to your child

Suggested age : 3 years and above.

Today ,I will be sharing the ways which I used to introduce scissors to my child.I introduced scissors only when he was around 3 years as he showed interest in scissors.

Step 1: Open and Close

He was aware of open and close concept,so made him to open and close using scissors till he got good hold of it.It was fun for him.I gave child friendly safe scissors initially.

Step 2: Dough cut

I asked the child to roll the dough and cut it using scissor.Today,to share it with you,he has kneaded it and added food colour of his choice. You can use play dough too.

Step 3:Straw cut

I gave him few straws and asked  to cut the straw. Then you ask the child to lace it using pipe cleaners .It improves fine motor skills in the child

Step 4: Newspaper cut

I used to draw a line and ask the child to cut it and later we used to paste it in notebook.

Step 5:Daily chores

He used  to take interest in our daily activities like to cut milk packets or other packets. This makes him happy and creates satisfaction. This method made him to master the scissor skill

Step 6: Pretend play Paper hair cut

He loves pretend play,so I used to draw few faces in paper. He used to assume himself as barber and do haircut to the papers. This turned out to be super fun to the child.

Scissor skills would develop over period of time.Give different types of scissors to the child.Intially child may use both hands but over period of time, will surely master the skill.

Saving Mickey from tape

I always prefer to give different title for whatever game we play at home to make it interesting to my son.

This is very simple game which we are playing since he turned 2 years to till date but with different game titles.

All you need is any cellotape and board .Today we used our Mickey mouse game board and whatever cello tape was immediately available at home.We assumed that Goofy has tied Mickey mouse with tape completely ,so we have to help Mickey by removing the tape.

How to play this game

Ask the child to stick the cello tape to the board wherever he prefers. For toddlers, parents can stick on the board.

Ask the child to peel the cello tape from board.

Benefits of this game

It acts as good finger exercise for little fingers

It helps in developing fine motor skills in the child.

Our Indian Army

I am feeling very proud of my little boy today for two reasons, you will know why at the end of my post.

We go to park regularly and tend to meet different types of people. There are two person who is always curious to find my caste.I don’t prefer to disclose it to anyone. From my school days to till date,I have never asked any of my friend’s caste or religion or anything.According to me all are my friends.

Those person didnot stop but went to my son and asked his name ,he said my name is Haren. They asked him are you ##### ?,my son said No,I m an INDIAN.

This was the first reason which made me proud.

While walking towards home,we happened to see our army personnel and utilised the opportunity to talk about our Indian army.

I told him about our importance of Indian army. How much sacrifice they do for us and protect our country. They stay away from daddy mummy and children. They donot celebrate any festivals or birthday.

If we are sleeping everyday peacefully is because of those brave soldiers.

My little hero said to me Amma ,after I become big boy ,I want to join Indian Army. This was the second reason, why I really feel very proud of my child.

As parents,we have completely left the choice to our child to decide whatever he want to become. We will surely guide him accordingly based on his decision.

We will be really very proud and happy if he choose our Indian army in future.

Then he asked me to help him to tie rope ,so that he would save our country and did pretend play with his tank and armoured vehicles. His pretend play of our Indian army was done with whatever available at home.

Fun learning activities for Republic day

All the games which we play at home would be very simple, lots of fun and at the same time ,we focus on development of fine motor skills and other skills which is needed in overall development of child.

1.Learn to spell INDIA

Things needed

Paper cups

Sketch pens

Plastic spoons(We used  spoons which we got while purchasing tricolour icecream)

I wrote each letter in each cup and put hole on the top of cup so that child can insert spoon. In each spoon,i wrote each letter too.

I asked him to match the letter with cup and spoon .Then he inserted the spoon in the top of the cup.

At the end of game,he learnt to spell INDIA

2.Scoop the National symbols

In a vessel of water,I asked my child to fill tiger, elephant, peacock, mango, lotus and gave him a scoop.

I asked him the questions pertaining to our national symbols. After he answers correctly each question,he has to take out the symbol from water using scoop and put it outside.

This is good for development of fine motor skills and one of the method to make sure that child gets familiar with our national symbols.

3.Popsicle sticks.

I handed over him few colourful popsicle, pom poms sticks and kept sand timer. The child had to do o national flag using popsicle sticks based on the sand timer.

Overall,we enjoyed playing together☺☺

Diy Spinning Wheel

Today we talked a lot about our father of our nation and other national leaders.Very often we visit Agakhan palace which is near Yerwada Pune.

1.Agakhan Palace

It is palace surrounded by lavish garden and is closely related to freedom movement. Here you can see paintings, things used by Gandhi during his stay.

Mahatma Gandhi, Kasturba Gandhi, Shri Mahadeobhai Desai, Dr. Sarojini Naidu and others were kept under imprisonment in the Agakhan Palace during 1942- Quit India movement.
I utilised those opportunity to talk about our national leaders and he is quite familiar with few of them.

2.Spinning wheel

He came suddenly by saying he wanted to do spinning wheel like Gandhi ji.So,the idea of using his ring and wicket came to my mind.

How we did Spinning wheel.

I asked my son to take his ring, thick thread, his wicket.I asked him to roll the thread to the ring and finally tie a knot to the wicket at end.I wanted him to practise doing knot.

Finally, our diy spinning wheel is ready. He kept set of his white clothes and started to play with his spinning wheel.

3.National leaders and our monuments.

We had fridge magnets of our national leaders and I asked him to identify and tell the national leader.Whoever he could recognise was sticked to the surface.

Similarly he identified our monuments.

Our Flag hoisting

Today,my little hero wanted to do flag hoisting .So we started our day with flag hoisting.

We took unused white cloth and a stick ,fevicryl colours, paint brushes.

Then my child painted the cloth with saffron ,green and left the center part unpainted as it is white cloth .

We attached the painted cloth flag to the stick and tied it in our open space with remaining left over cloth piece.

He saluted our national flag and he assumed to be President of India, then he did parade the whole house and was saluting when he sees the national flag.We sang National anthem and national song together.

Then he made everyone in the house to tell Jai Hind and Bharat matha ki jai.

Hubby  brought tricolour icecream for little hero.Loved tasting the colourful icecream☺☺

Our learning about peacock

My son has seen peacock only in katraj zoo, books and photos. We started our talk about birds, where do they live, what they eat. Then came to talk about our national bird peacock.

We learnt about peacock family which is called as peafowl, daddy is peacock, mummy is peahen ,baby is called peachicks. We used two peacock hangings for daddy and mummy ,peacock figurine for baby.

I started noting down in sheet of paper what we discussed about peacock.Peacocks lives in forests and my son added katraj zoo. What does peacock eat and in which countries we can find peacocks and soon.

Later after discussing,I asked him to do peacock of his own whatever comes to his mind.I did not mention anything and went to prepare my coffee.

When I was about to sip my coffee,he came to me by saying his peacock is ready.I really wish to drink my coffee hot.

He has used peacock feathers, googly eyes, has done sketch of body .He said he took two feathers from Pooja room(I had brought it during Krishna Janmashtami festival) he drew face of peacock and coloured it ,sticked googly eyes and his peacock is ready.

This is one of our activity for Republic day.

Building our own road

Since first half of the day was spent outside,we passed different types of road.He was curious to know why some roads are neat, others have hole in road ,few places donot have road. With lots of questions in his mind,I thought I would engage him in doing his own road.

But doing it today evening was totally unexpected as the idea flashed during our pretend play of Construction site.

Scene in our play

The engineer was discussing with officer that there is no proper road in wagholi area,so we need to construct a road. Then plan was given to officer and he agreed to construct the road. The engineer took measurement of the road using measurement tape and noted down

To make it simple we used clay as cement, dry clay as crushed rocks, slime mixed with black water colour as road tar.I had only pink slime ,so I mixed black water colour to give sticky tar effect.

It turned out to be good sensory exposure to the child.

We constructed our road in wagholi area.
